Sister Alfreda Lois Marie Quesnelle entered Eternal Life in the peace of the Lord and the hope of Resurrection at the Hamilton Precious Blood Monastery on March 12, 2023, in the 97th year of her life and the 76th year of her religious profession of Vows. She is predeceased by her parents, Gretchen (Bellerose) and Alfred Quesnelle; her siblings, Adele (Don) Sargent, Rev. Alfred (Father Bud), Margaret (Len) Allen, Mark, Martin, Albert, Gretchen, Claude and Joan Quigley. She is survived by her brother-in-law, DeVerne (Verne) Quigley and many nieces and nephews and their families who mourn her passing.
Born in Penetanguishene, ON, on June 9, 1926, Sister Alfreda entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Precious Blood on September 8, 1945, and made her First Profession on May 24, 1947, in Toronto. She volunteered to become a member of our Community in Japan from 1952 to 1961, where, among other duties, she served as the Formation Director of this young community. Upon her return to Canada, she served as Local Superior in several Precious Blood monasteries. From 1968 to 1976, when many changes took place in the Church, she unselfishly carried the responsibilities of General Superior to our Congregation. For the last several years, in failing health and needing Infirmary care, her quiet presence was a blessing to our Hamilton Community, who witnessed her peaceful surrender in union with Christ.
Visitation and vigil prayers will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at the Monastery of the Sisters of the Precious Blood, 154 Northcliffe Avenue, Dundas, ON, L9H 7L9. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023, at the monastery, with Father David Wilhelm presiding. Immediately following the Mass, interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Burlington, ON.
