Robert Arthur Brown

May 14, 1935 — December 21, 2023

London, Ontario

Robert A. Brown passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023 at the University Hospital in London, Ontario at the age of 88. He had been in failing health for the last year. Beloved husband for 53 years to the late Kathleen Margaret Brown (Simms), loving father to Peter Gordon Brown and his wife Margaret Campbell-Brown and proud grandfather to Sara and Mary. He also leaves his brother Richard (late Dodi) and a nephew and a niece. Bob was born at home in Dalhousie, New Brunswick to Joseph Gordon Brown and Mary Margaret Gilbert. He attended Sacred Heart Academy and Notre-Dame High School and went on to join the Royal Canadian Air Force for 3 years. After attending Teachers College in Fredericton, he taught school in Oromocto, NB. Later, he was district supervisor of schools and coordinator of special education in Bathurst NB while obtaining his bachelor and masters degrees in Education from the University of New Brunswick. In 1982 the Brown family moved to Fort McMurray where Bob served as vice-principal of St. Paul’s School and later as principal at Father Beauregard School until 1990. In retirement Bob was appointed the director of education for the Athabasca Tribal Council. His volunteer work involved hospital pastoral care in Fort McMurray, in Edmonton and in London, Ontario. Bob enjoyed conversations about education and reminisced about his experiences in the RCAF. He and Kathy belonged to the 427 (London) Wing and enjoyed talking to the other veterans. He was honoured to volunteer as a hospital pastoral care worker. He and Kathy moved to London to be close to their family whom he loved dearly. His family will miss him; Sunday dinners won’t be the same. Like his father he had a great love of animals and his lovely cat Mia will miss him but she is enjoying her new home where she is playing with his granddaughters. The family would like to thank Dr. Misra and Dr. Cookson as well as the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at University Hospital. The warm and efficient care of the workers at Windermere on the Mount, particularly Director of Health and Wellness, Catherine Skeete, is much appreciated. Bob also very much enjoyed regular visits from his regular care workers, Victoria and Judy. Cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the  Chapel at Windermere on the Mount, 1486 Richmond Street, London, on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a private interment at Woodland Cemetery. Donations in memory of Bob may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences can be sent to Peter Brown at pbrown@uwo.ca Online condolences & Guest Book at www.oneilfuneralhome.ca
