Richard Hrycyna

Apr 30, 1964 — Jul 12, 2026

London, Ontario

It is with broken hearts that the family of Richard ("Rick") Hrycyna announces his sudden but peaceful passing on July 12, 2026.

Rick brought joy wherever he went. With his infectious smile, quick wit, and genuine curiosity about others, he had a remarkable way of connecting with people. Gregarious, kind-hearted, and always ready for a conversation, he treasured his family, neighbours, friends, and community. He never forgot a story, a milestone, or an encounter, no matter how brief. Time spent with Rick was always filled with laughter, and his warmth and thoughtfulness brightened the lives of those around him. Though he could be wonderfully stubborn at times, it was simply part of the spirited personality that made him uniquely Rick. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Rick was the beloved son of the late Jaroslaw ("Joe") and Concetta ("Tina") Hrycyna (née DiMillo). He was the dearly loved brother of Barbara Hrycyna, whose unwavering love, devotion, and lifelong care made it possible for Rick to live a life filled with dignity, joy, and connection. He was the brother-in-law of the late Felice Carlucci, a loving and devoted uncle of Nicolas and Arianna Carlucci who loved him dearly, and a very proud uncle-in-law of Tyler Mäkinen.

Rick will also be missed by the many friends, neighbours, and members of the community who enriched his life and whom he treasured, especially his dear friend Aqua O'Brien Storey. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family in London, Ottawa, Milwaukee, and Italy.

The family would like to thank everyone whose friendship, kindness, and support brought happiness to Rick throughout his life.

Visitors will be received at O'Neil Funeral Home, 350 William Street, London, on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A prayer service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with entombment afterward at St. Peter's Cemetery, London, Ontario.

Those wishing to make a memorial donation are invited to consider L'Arche London in Rick's memory. L'Arche's mission of fostering dignity, belonging, and community reflects values that were important throughout Rick's life.
