With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mariusz Marko on July 12th, 2026, at the age of 91. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 52 years, Lucyna, his daughters Monika (Shane) and Marta (Larry), and his cherished grandchildren Marko and Sophie. He is predeceased by his parents Bronislaw and Helena, and his brother Henryk. Lovingly remembered by his sisters Krystyna (Ryszard) and Irena (Jerzy), along with many nieces and nephews in both Canada and Poland.
Born in Gielnia, Poland in 1934, Mariusz’s life was defined by resilience, determination, and remarkable achievement. Having endured the hardships of World War II and the difficult years that followed, he persevered to become a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Politechnika Białostocka in Białystok—proudly becoming the first university graduate from his hometown. In 1985, he embarked on his next great adventure, immigrating to Canada with his wife and daughters. Through immense personal sacrifice, he ensured that his family—near and far—could build a better future.
In Canada, Mariusz worked in the manufacturing of diesel locomotive components for General Motors. He served as Chairman of the Association of Polish Engineers in Canada (London Chapter) and was an active member and actor in the Polish theatrical group “Dialog” in London, Ontario. Whether on stage or in spirited conversation, Mariusz delighted in thoughtful debate and lively discourse. He was a teacher by nature, dispensing life lessons and his knowledge of "savoir faire".
He found joy in learning and discovery—reading historical and biographical literature, picking mushrooms, tending his rose garden, solving any household problem that required ingenuity, and playing chess with his grandson who proudly carries his name. He had a gift for negotiation, a sharp wit, and a deep pride in his appearance. Whether at embassy receptions or on the sidelines of a soccer field, he had a way of charming his way to the center of attention.
Above all, Mariusz’s greatest accomplishment was the love and devotion of his family. Surrounded by those who adored him, he now embarks on his final journey—reunited with his faithful Maja, who always waited patiently for him at the threshold.
