Manuel Sousa Furtado

Peacefully, at his residence, surrounded by his family, on Monday, June 10, 2019, Manuel Sousa Furtado in his 87th year. Beloved husband to Candida Furtado, dear father of Margaret Lima (Sam), Tony Furtado, George Furtado (Kim Taylor) and Mike Furtado. Loving grandfather of Adam, Matthew and Ella. Manuel was the eldest of ten children of Dinis and Aurelia Furtado. Driven to provide better opportunities for his family, Manuel courageously immigrated to Canada in April of 1956. He continued supporting his family in Portugal throughout his life, and sponsored several siblings to join him in Canada. Manuel was a supporter of the Canadian Portuguese community, and his welcoming nature and generosity was appreciated by numerous immigrant families when they arrived in Canada. Manuel was an extremely proud father and grandfather, and one of his greatest joys came from being able to provide University Education for all his children. Visitors will be received in the O'Neil Funeral Home, 350 William Street, London on Friday, June 14, 2019 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Cross Church,10 Elm St. at Hamilton Rd. on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment in St. Peter's Cemetery, London. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca.
