Jose Almeida

March 24, 1940 — December 27, 2025

London, Ontario

It is with deep sorrow and faith that the family announces the peaceful passing of Jose Arruda Almeida age 85, who passed away at his home in London, Ontario surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on December 27th, 2025.

Jose was born on March 24, 1940 in São Brás, Açores to the late Emilia and Daniel. He was predeceased by his parents and by his sister Maria Medeiros and sister-in-law Maria do Céu, wife of Manuel Almeida.

He is survived by his wife, Filomena, with whom he shared a long marriage and raised a family. A proud husband, father, and avô, Jose enjoyed fixing things, working with his hands, carving wooden figures and tending to his garden.

He leaves behind his children Maria Luisa Romeo (husband Michael), Luis Almeida, Leonor Turgeon (husband Tom) Ana Mangold (husband Matthew) and Nancy Almeida (husband Geoff Crookes).

Jose was a much loved grandfather of Joshua (wife Maria), Isaac, Daniel, Gil, Alexander, Lauren, Robert, Sophie, Ava and Evelyn.

Jose will also be lovingly remembered by his siblings Gilda Gonçalves (husband Octavio), Joao Almeida (wife Conceição), Gilberto Almeida (wife Gorete), Isabel and Natalia (husband Eduardo) as well as by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Jose was a hardworking and resourceful man who took great pride in providing for his family. Known as a true faz-tudo, he could fix anything and always found a solution, often using repurposed materials. He had a deep love for gardening and took great pride and care of his large vegetable garden. A man of Catholic faith, Jose lived simply and worked with perseverance, making many sacrifices while establishing his family’s life in Canada. His strength, generosity, and example of hard work will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations in memory of Jose may be made to Diabetes Canada, Heart & Stroke, or the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
