Joao Medeiros Cabral

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Joao Medeiros Cabral, who departed this life peacefully on June 6, 2025, at the age of 92.

A devoted and deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Joao will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his tireless work ethic, strong moral compass, and, to those who knew him best, his adventurous spirit and fearless dedication to providing for those he loved.

Joao was born on July 26, 1932, in São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, where he met the love of his life, Maria Isabel. Together they immigrated to Canada and settled in London Ontario where they built their lives, raised their family, and paved the way for other relatives to follow. On May 15, 2025, he and Maria Isabel celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Up until the very day Joao left us, he loved making and bottling his own wine, cultivating his vegetable garden, and cruising the neighbourhood on his scooter.

He is survived by his beloved wife Maria Isabel; his children Laura (Jack), Ligia (Joe), Elizabeth, and Bob (Susan); his grandchildren Nicole, Andrea, Michael, Sarah, Savanah, Lola, and Cortez; and great-grandchildren Giannis, Naomi, Theodore, Roman, and Sofia. Joao was the eldest of eight siblings. 

He was predeceased by his parents Joaquim and Maria, and siblings Guimar, Lourdes, and Joaquim; and is survived by his siblings Jose, Jaime, Virgolina, and David. 

Family and friends are invited to visitation at O’Neil Funeral Home, 350 William St., London, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Church, 10 Elm St. at Hamilton Rd., on Wednesday, June 11 at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery, London.
