Ines Martins
August 7, 1932 — March 19, 2024
London
With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, we announce the passing of our beautiful sweet mom, Ines Martins on March 19, 2024. After months of failing health, mom died peacefully, surrounded in love, with her daughters, Elizabeth (Mike) and Luisa (Mark), by her side. Knowing that she now joins our father, Joao Martins (2018) - whom she loved beyond bearing, with the sure knowledge and selfsame way that he loved her - brings us comfort and solace. As a proud grandmother, she was most joyful being “vavo” to Erin and Michael, loving them greater than she imagined possible. She instilled in them such strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in their hearts. For us, she was our library, our storyteller, our stronghold and our friend. A woman of faith and the heart of our family, she served as a living example of love and kindness, praying for us daily. Daughter of Serafim (1989) and Hortencia Bulhoes (1976) and the eldest of eight children, she counted being born into a loving family as one of her greatest blessings. She leaves behind sister Isabel (Manuel 2024), sister Conceicao (2017)(Jose 2013), brother Jose (2010) (Palmira), brother Serafim (2007) (Maria), sister Maria Ana (Manuel), sister Angelina (Jose) and brother Julio (Guiomar), along with many nieces, nephews and their respective extended families here in Canada and abroad. She truly loved her family and when her time came, she carried herself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before her. The calls, letters, cards and visits mom received during the final weeks of her life were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort. There are no words that can express how grateful we are to have had our Elmwood family there during mom’s final days, especially the prayers and benedictions offered to mom upon her parting, led by Carol, Elmwood’s guardian angel. We are also so grateful to our Maple View family who cared for and supported mom in her most difficult time after losing dad. Visitors will be received in Mary Immaculate Parish, 1980 Trafalgar at Admiral Drive, London on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. followed by interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery, London.
