Douglas Astin

1941 — January 1, 2021

With sadness and love, the family of Douglas Astin announces his passing on September 27, 2021 at Parkwood Institute, London. Doug was the cherished husband of Norma (predeceased July 24, 2021) for over 54 years. Loving father to Paul (predeceased), Jim and Steph, their partners, Serena and Chad. Loving brother to Margaret and her husband Chris. Loving brother-in-law to Dolly (predeceased). Loving Uncle to Emma & Mike and Matthew & Sandrine - and the Astin/Powell family. Loving Tito to Sheilah & Billy, Renato & Noemi, Joel & Chyrll, Vina & Arvin and Phyllis Dee & Darius - and entire Juanero Family. Loving adoptive grandad to Sara & Rick. Doug's lifetime was dedicated to providing a great life for his family - immediate and extended. He created jobs through manufacturing and engineering. He was a strong participant in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He was dedicated to the church and various means of charity & community including the Daily Bread Food Bank, Lions Club and the Kinsmen. Alongside his life partner Norma, they founded the Filipino-Canadian Association of London and District 50 years ago which is a Filipino charity and community group that continues to this day. Doug was a voracious reader - mystery, crime and sci fiction were his favourites. He loved the Blue Jays, the Raptors, Star Trek, golf, chess, travelling, good wine and hosting friends. Doug had a playful nature but loved a great debate. We will miss you dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canada Cancer Society https://cancer.ca/en and to the Legacy of Hope Foundation, an Indigenous run charity promoting healing and reconciliation in Canada https://legacyofhope.ca Unfortunately, due to covid19 restrictions, funeral services will be by invitation only. We encourage that condolences and memories for the Astin family be expressed at www.oneilfuneralhome.ca
