Bill Laws

Oct 13, 1954 — Jul 11, 2026

London

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Laws on July 11, 2026, at the age of 71, surrounded by the love of his family in the comfort of his home. Born on October 13, 1954, he lived a life defined by love any loyalty to those he loved dear.

He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his devoted wife, Betty-Jean Laws; his children, Rich (Fran), Jesse, Billy and Cindy; and his cherished grandchildren, Hayden, Heidi, Mireya, Colton, Lili, Kinsley and Beau, who brought him immense pride and joy.

He is also survived by his sisters, Gail, Arlene, and Kim; as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends whose lives were better for knowing him.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents Claire and Raymond Laws, and his brother, Art Laws.

Born in Niagara Falls, and Raised in London, Ontario, he developed a lifelong passion for sports at an early age with lacrosse holding a special place in his heart. He proudly played for the Owen Sound North Stars from 1976 til 1987, earning a reputation of a fierce competitor and tough opponent on the floor. Among his many accomplishments, he helped his team win the President’s Cup in 1980, in that same year he won Defensemen of the Year. His love of the game, determination, and sportsmanship left a lasting impression on teammates, opponents, and everyone who had the privilege of watching him play.

For over 40 years, he proudly ran the Ghetto Gang Horseshoe League, where he built lasting friendships, created countless memories, and brought people together through his love for the game and community. He also spent many years enthusiastically cheering on his beloved Cincinnati Bengals, never missing an opportunity to yell at the TV while rooting for his team.

In his final years, one of his greatest pleasures was enjoying breakfast at Butterbites. The staff became much more than familiar faces — they were warm, welcoming, and genuinely cared for him. On some days when he wasn’t able to go inside and had to take his breakfast to go, they sent home heartfelt notes, small gestures of kindness that meant a great deal to him and those who loved him.

Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his home care nurses, Alwin and Joseph, who became a cherished part of our daily lives. Their compassion, kindness, and humanity brought comfort and dignity to his days, and their care meant more to our family than words can express.

We would also like to sincerely thank Dr. Achtar for the compassionate care he provided during his final months, Dr. Lenehan (and Rebecca) for their dedicated care over the last several years, family physician Dr. Clary (and Melissa) for their continued support and his former family physician, Dr. Thomas, for the many years of care and kindness she provided throughout his life.

Finally, we offer our deepest gratitude to Marg, who came without hesitation when we called her in his final moments. She gathered with our family, prayed over him with love and compassion, and brought us comfort and peace during one of the most difficult times of our lives. Her kindness and unwavering support will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his home on Sunday, August 2nd, at 12:00 p.m. til early evening. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate his life, share memories, and honour the legacy he leaves behind. For additional information or if anything further is needed, please contact the family.
