Antonio Goulart

October 22, 1934 — October 31, 2025

London, Ontario

Antonio (Tony) Goulart passed away peacefully at University Hospital on Friday, October 31, surrounded by his loving family just nine days after his 91st birthday. Loving husband of Maria Angelina Goulart, devoted father of Helder Goulart (Sally), adoring grandfather of Corey and Chelsea Garcia and Aidan and Grace Goulart, and great grandfather of Nathan and Theo Garcia and Isabella and Dominic. He is also survived by his brother Jose Goulart and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Liza Goulart; his parents, Antonio Bento de Rosa Goulart and Angelica Hortense Goulart; and fifteen other beloved brothers and sisters.

Born in Faial, Azores, Portugal in 1934 in a family of fifteen other siblings, he was conscripted into the Portuguese Army under the Salazar Dictatorship. Rising to the rank of Corporal, he was imprisoned by military police for having led a food riot in protest to the poor conditions that the soldiers faced. He immigrated to Canada in 1962, meeting and marrying his wife the following year after a visit back to Portugal, where they permanently settled in London in 1964. From modest beginnings working in the janitorial services sector, he courageously left his employer to create his own corporate cleaning service, Goulart Building Maintenance Ltd. At its height, the business employed over 100 employees and had contracts with many prominent office buildings in London's downtown core, and became a particular bedrock for the Portuguese immigrant community in the city, refusing to retire until the ripe age of 82.

He will be remembered as a kind, generous, respectful, and honest man, whose sole purpose in life was to love and care for his family. Everything that he did went back to providing for his family, generation after generation, never withholding his love for them but rather abundantly pouring it out. While he will be sadly missed, particularly around family gatherings, his passing presents a cause for celebrating a life well and fully lived.
