Peacefully passed away at Queens Village, London, Ontario on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025, Ann McColl Lindsay at the age of 84.
Ann is survived by her husband of 64 years, David Lindsay.
Predeceased by her parents Margaret and George Grant.
Ann is also survived by her sisters Esther (Reaume) and Margaret Grant, her brother George Grant, her sister-in-law Roberta Grant and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ann was born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1950. In her younger years, Ann excelled in school and was honoured for having the highest average in her Grade 13 year. She went on to the University of Windsor and obtained her Honours BA.Ann became a school teacher and this is where she met her her husband David. They had carried on a note-passing love affair up and down the school’s hallways and were married on the last day of the school year in 1961.
Ann loved to travel and upon retiring from teaching, both she and David took a gap year to explore Europe. Ann also loved to cook. While they were in Europe they educated themselves on cooking and everything involved in running the kitchen. When they returned to Canada they opened Ann McColl’s Kitchen Shop in 1969 and ran a successful business until retirement in 2000. Ann McColl’s Kitchen Shop was recognized by the industry Canada wide and awarded the Retailer of the Year in 1994. Ann was a published author and in her spare time loved gardening. She took great pride in her gardens at their residence in London’s Woodfield area. She had won many awards from the Woodfield District and the City of London. Ann was a heritage advocate and fought hard, albeit unsuccessfully, to save the so-called Talbot Block of London. Ann and David were able to leave their previous two downtown premises as designated heritage properties under the Ontario Heritage Act.
Ann’s husband David would like to extend a special thank you to the staff on the second floor of Queen’s Village for their care and compassion of Ann during her time at the residence.
