Almezinda Machado

Peacefully, surrounded by her family, at her residence in London, on Saturday, May 2, 2020, Almezinda Machado (nee: Simoes) in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Antonio Machado (2014). Dear mother of John (Sandi), Maria Marczenko (Peter), Joanne Gordon (Alan), Tony and Ken. Loving grandmother of Andrew, Timothy, Jordan, Claire, Matthew, Brendan, Mason, Aaliyah and great-grandmother of Joseph and Oliver. Also survived by her brother Manuel. Predeceased by her sisters Maria De Gloria, Senhorina, Maria Espirito Santo and her brothers Carlos and Teofilo. Almezinda treasured family gatherings, where she filled her home with wonderful meals, warmth and love. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She sponsored many families to come to Canada often staying in her home for months and sometimes years; for many she was like a second mother to them. She was a contributor in the documentary film Strong Hearts, Steady Hands which explored the history of the Portuguese arrival in Canada.
