Surrounded by her family, Adriana “Jeanne” Pieternella Vandenberg (née Vermeulen) passed away peacefully at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on October 10, 2026, at the age of 100.
Jeanne was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and friend. She loved going for walks, tending her garden, sweeping up the birdseed that fell to the ground, sewing, drying dishes, doing puzzles, playing games with her grandchildren, eating chocolates, and enjoying all that life had to offer.Jeanne was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 1926, where she spent her childhood and trained as a nurse.
In 1961, she immigrated to Canada with her best friend, Trudy, embarking on a new chapter of life and continuing her nursing career as an operating room nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London. It was there that Jeanne met Hubert, the love of her life. They were married at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in 1966, beginning a loving relationship that would span nearly 60 years.
Together, they raised three children. Jeanne stepped away from full-time nursing to devote herself to raising her family, instilling in her children strong moral values and a deep commitment to public service.
Jeanne will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of nearly 60 years, Hubert Vandenberg; her three children, Hubert (Juanita), Eric (Judy), and Karen (Rick); and her eight grandchildren, Jacob, Jaime, Gavin, Craig, Maxwell, Benjamin, Luke, and Mason. She was predeceased by her parents and seven brothers.
The visitation will be held at O’Neil Funeral Home, 350 William Street, London, on Tuesday, October 13th, from 6-8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church , 502 Talbot Street, St. Thomas, on Wednesday, October 14th at 10 am. A private family interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation.
